Habit is habit and not to be kicked out the door at any time, but coaxed down the stairs, little by little. - Twain

A New Beginning

Date Posted: 12.31.07

I have decided that just summarizing and reviewing books is boring. It should also be noted that I have not summarized every book I read. I will. I really will! In the meantime, I think I will use this blog for more personal topics as well.

I know I said I wasn't going to do that but I have changed my mind. I think it might be cool to do this without my friends, families or coworkers reading it.

So... my life today:

Today is New Years Eve and I am cleaning my house. I suppose I could call a friend and go out but I really want the house to be clean and its been a busy holiday season so I am just going to stick to it.

I got very cool presents for Christmas. Yes, I am over 30 and I still get presents from my Mummy (who does have this site address). I got a glass torch for making glass beads. I have always wanted to learn to work with glass.

My friend (who shall be called Sarah from here on out) and I played with the torch a little yesterday. My first bead looks like a small, brown turd. I will learn though. Sadly, I cant really start working with it until the house is in better order.

Somehow the idea of working with melted glass in a messy environment with three active cats just seems bad.

I also got money for Christmas. I am going to be responsible and smart and buy a very necessary water softener with most of it. However, I did splurge on a welding kit. It was on sale at Lowes. I have been wanting one for a while and it will go well with the glass kit. I can make my own mandrels and molds for future fusing and slumping projects.

This hobby will no doubt be expensive. Sundance Glass seems to have decent prices and lots of information on glass art supplies. If I win the lottery I will buy everything they sell and hole up in my house and play with it until I pass out from the fumes or singe all the hair off a couple of my cats. Alas, since I don't play the lottery this scenario seems unlikely. Plan B is to hope that I can sell some of my other art on E bay. People have offered to buy it often enough so maybe I can make enough money to get into glass working. Then sell whatever I make out of the glass to support the habit.

Now I am going to go finish cleaning. sad
